FfE - The Research Institute for Energy Economy Forschungsstelle für Energiewirtschaft e.V.
The FfE, established in 1949, is a non-profit member organization comprised of members from the industries of Energy Technology and Utilization, Industry, Science and Administration. The organization also has approximately 150 private members.
The organization employs a scientific approach to address issues concerning power engineering, energy technology and economy and their impacts on our environment. The FfE’s main objective is to further the efficient use of energy.
Research Subjects Undertaken by the FfE Staff
- Technologies used in the measurement, and management of energy
- Technologies use in improving buildings
- Hydrogen-related technologies
- Systems for the arraying and transmitting of information Systems providing mobility
- Alternative propulsion technologies
- The auditing of energy and material consumption
- The analysis of structures and the compiling of related prognoses
- Technologies based on the use of restorative energy
Natural Science & Technology
The AiF is an organization supported by Germany’s business community created to foster research and development in the natural sciences and technologies. The Aif has 106 research associations active in 34 industrial sectors across Germany.

Applied Energy Research
ZAE Bayern - Bayerisches Zentrum für Angewandte Energieforschung e. V. with 5 locations in Erlangen, Munich, and Wurzburg.
ZAE Bayern promotes scientific discoveries and innovation related to the application of energy by organizing cooperation between corporations, universities and scientific institutes. ZAE Bayern has a wealth of expertise in high-vacuum insulation, photovoltaic and fuel-cell related technology.
