“Summit” of the Economic Regions Bavaria and Madrid
Jaime Smith, CEO O2 Germany: "Bavaria is the ideal location for forward-thinking companies"
Within the scope of the visit of a high-level Spanish delegation Invest in Bavaria organized a "Summit" of the economic regions Bavaria and Madrid. With O2 Germany, a subsidiary of the Spanish Telefónica Group, a prominent partner and host was secured for the event, which is not only seen as a "beacon" in the architectural sense, with its headquarters in the Uptown Munich Hochhaus, but also regarding the existing business contacts between Bavaria and Spain.
In his welcome address, Jaime Smith Basterra, CEO O2 Germany, underscored the advantages of the location: "The presence of many companies from the technology sector and an innovative environment make Bavaria and Munich an interesting site for the IT and telecommunications sector."
The goal of the event was to bring together Spanish and Bavarian network partners, such as, for example, the cluster managers from the Automotive, Biotechnology, Financial Services and Media sectors in both lands, in order to promote the commitment of Spanish companies in Bavaria together in future. Closer cooperation and mutual exchange were launched with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by Bavarian Minister Emilia Müller and the Minister of Economics of the Madrid Region, Fernando Merry del Val on 4/28/2008.
O2 (Germany) GmbH & Co. OHG, a subsidiary of Telefónica O2 Europe plc and part of the Spanish telecommunications company Telefónica S.A., is headquartered in Munich. Telefónica O2 Europe plc has 42 million mobile phone and conventional telephone network customers in Great Britain, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany.
