Investment boom in Straubing-Sand logistics and industrial park
200,000 m² of industrial land marketed in 2007 – Port scores well in handling heavy-duty loads – Entrepreneurial center for renewable resources boosts its standing with biomass
For the year 2007, the Municipal Association for the Straubing-Sand Industrial Park with Danube River Port (ZVI = Der Zweckverband Industriegebiet mit Donauhafen Straubing-Sand) can for the third time in succession book record results for the marketing of its logistics and industrial space. Investors from the fields of production, logistics and services have altogether acquired 200,000 m² of industrial land in the Straubing-Sand trimodal industrial park.
Sennebogen, the manufacturer of cranes and special machinery, is an example of a leading industrial company that has established itself in the Port, where it is building an ultramodern production plant with development and sales centers on a 120,000 m² plot of land.
The first construction phase in the € 30 million investment consists of a large-scale assembly hall occupying more than 13,000 m², modern office facilities and social amenities. The first machines with a net weight of up to 220 tons and boom lengths of up to 125 meters are expected to leave the plant by mid-2008. They are assembled and tested in the extensive open-air grounds.
The international real-estate group Goodman is currently constructing another 40,000 m² logistics hall for Ingram Micro, the leading wholesaler for information technology products. Ingram Micro is thus securing all options for continued steady growth of the leading distributor in the IT and consumer electronics market. As part of an integrated logistics solution, Goodman has purchased the plot of land directly adjoining the current warehouse of Ingram Micro, where the new facility will be developed to the precise requirements of the distributor. Europe’s largest IT logistics center with a total production area of 80,000 m² is therefore emerging in Straubing.
In the wake of these industrial investments, Straubing-Sand is becoming increasingly interesting as a site for production-related services. In the Service Zone, the Straubing firm Franz Netter is investing in an ultramodern Truck-Wash-Center for cleaning the interiors of silo transporters with separate cleaning lines for chemicals and food transporters, which will be located in the direct vicinity of the newly opened fuel station of the Lang company. Netter is investing € 1.7 million here on a plot of land covering 5,000 m².
