Start-up activities in Regensburg defy the economic crisis / Federal Government funds start-up network for innovative logistics

MUNICH / REGENSBURG  The Upper Palatinate has developed into one of the leading IT regions for start-ups in Bavaria. The Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, said: “Start-up activity in Regensburg and the Upper Palatinate is still going strong despite the continuing economic crisis: the Bavarian State Government is supporting this trend with, for example, the ‘IT Speicher’ Technology Incubator in Regensburg and the ‘IT Initiative for Upper Palatinate’. So far, 65 successful IT start-ups have emerged from the ‘IT Speicher’, creating some 270 new jobs for us in the region.” The Technology Incubator was therefore proving to be a particularly valuable forum especially in times of crisis.

“The work of the Regensburg business incubator and the IT Initiative for Upper Palatinate is so successful that it has now produced the first Bavarian IT network project funded by the Federal Government”, Zeil added. Eight logistics specialists from Regensburg and the Upper Palatinate have organized themselves into the Network for Innovative Logistics (NIL) and applied for funding under the so-called NEMO Program. The aim of the network consisting of established IT companies and start-up businesses from the Upper Palatinate is to develop a complex solution for production, storage and transport.

In the meantime, the decision by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs to extend the funding granted to start-ups in the ‘IT Speicher’ to the whole of the Upper Palatinate with the ‘IT Initiative for Upper Palatinate’ was showing the first signs of bearing fruit. A wide range of offers for initiating and mobilizing IT start-ups has been launched under the brand name ‘IT Speicher’. “We give advice on questions about financing, offer assistance with drawing up a business plan and develop customized CPD concepts. Seeking investors especially in difficult economic times calls for a great deal of commitment”, explains Managing Director Herbert Vogler. “We can help out here”. In all its activities, the ‘IT Speicher’ business incubator cooperates with the municipal services provided in the towns of the Upper Palatinate. Start-up support had established itself well and was networked with all the relevant local players in the Upper Palatinate.
