New Bavarian space promotion program / Ten million euros for space research and development
MUNICH The Bavarian Funding Program for Research and Development in Space Travel has been launched. Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, commented: “The State of Bavaria is one of the most important and most traditional aerospace locations in the world, for both industry and research. With the new funding program of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs totaling ten million euros we intend to motivate small and medium-sized enterprises in particular to step up their research and development activities in Bavaria. This will help create new space technologies that will quickly produce attractive products and services.”
The Minister said that space travel is a significant key technology still offering enormous potential for innovation. In the field of space travel, competition is tough in Europe and other countries round the world. Zeil: “With the new Bavarian funding program we are setting the course for maintaining and boosting the competencies available in Bavaria in the future as well.”
Funding will be provided in particular for core sectors such as space engineering, carrier systems, space technologies for security, robotics, use of outer space technology for terrestrial applications as well as science in outer space. This is where Bavaria’s research institutions and companies can boast particular skills. The Bavarian funding program complements the facilities available on EU and Federal German level.
