Plans now fixed for trade missions of Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs Müller and Vice Minister Sackmann in 2008 / Talks planned in Europe, Asia and America

Müller: "Trade missions open doors to future-proof markets"

MUNICH Also in the coming year the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs

Emilia Müller and Vice Minister Marcus Sackmann will be promoting Bavarian industry and Bavaria as a business location on their trade missions.

"Delegation trips have proved to be a major asset in our foreign trade policy. It remains the goal of trade missions to open doors and establish essential contacts for our companies in target countries with strong economic potential, through political support. Also successful marketing of Bavaria as a high-tech location will continue to play a major role in the trade missions" Ms. Müller explained.

Plans for future trade missions have now been fixed. The first trip will take Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Emilia Müller, to Austria at the beginning of January. This neighboring country has become Bavaria’s most important trade partner as from this year. Mid-January Ms. Müller will then travel together with State Sectretary Sackmann, to the Czech Republic, which is the Number One trade partner among the Central and East European countries.

Minister Müller is also planning to visit the United Arab Emirates at the end of January for the opening of the Arab Health trade fair, and China’s economically strongest province, Guangdong, as well as Vietnam in March.

Also in March a trade mission to Budapest (Hungary) is planned together with Vice Minister Sackmann, on the occasion of the Construma trade fair. Mid

2008 Müller will visit Moscow (Russia) for the traditional Bavarian Business Days and also California (USA).

State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Sackmann, will already be visiting Sofia on November 28, for the presentation of an award of the Bavarian Representative Office to two companies. For mid-April the program includes a trade mission to Mexico and Panama. In addition to this, trips to China (Shadong and Qindao) and Canada (Quebec) are on the program in the first half of 2008. "There is a strong demand for products of Bavarian companies all over the world and they boast and excellent reputation. Our industry is excellently positioned in global competition and consistently uses the opportunities offered by globalization. Our trade missions are aimed to boost the expansion of Bavaria’s international trade relations", Sackmann emphasized.

Following the 13th record in exports in a row in 2006, which generated over

141 billion euro, Bavaria is heading for the 14th exports record this year with over 150 billion euro expected.

Exports are an engine of growth and a major pillar for the Bavarian economy. The export share of industry has now reached 50 percent in Bavaria, which means that every second euro is earned on the world markets. One in four jobs in Bavaria relies on exports. It is therefore extremely important for Bavaria to maintain and expand its leading position in exports. To this end, trade missions remain essential in 2008", the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Müller, concluded.
