International Innovation Congress 'Bayern FIT–Research, Innovation, Technology'

Müller: "Our motto is: Bavaria at the leading edge – Innovation for the future"

MUNICH Bavaria is consistently pursuing its successful technology policy: At an international innovation congress held at BMW Welt in Munich, the State Government yesterday presented its future strategy for Bavarian technology policy in the State of Bavaria. The key theme addressed by the Congress was the new program ‘Bayern FIT – Forschung, Innovation, Technologie’ (Research, Innovation, Technology). "With Bavaria FIT we will continue to enhance Bavaria’s role as a center for research and technology. The program worth € 1.5 billion in total sets new priorities and gives new impetus to its technology policy right across the state from Würzburg to Passau and from Augsburg to Coburg. In this way, we will support technologically challenging development projects and initiate measures to build up non-university infrastructures. The State Government is therefore making a determined effort to fulfill its motto ‘Innovation for the future’", explained Emilia Müller, the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, at the event.

One of the main reasons for Bavaria’s economic success is the successful innovation policy it has been practicing over the past few decades. Müller: "With Bayern FIT, we are consistently pursuing this policy. We intend to promote Bavaria as a top location for business and research that is both attractive and efficient." The people of Bavaria will gain lasting benefit from this strong innovation policy. "High-tech companies are expanding faster, developing with more stability and offering well-paid jobs. Only a forward-looking economy will guarantee secure, top-quality jobs, prosperity and an environment worth living in", Müller underscored.

Innovative companies were the winners in international competition. "Innovations are the key to economic success. Small and medium-sized companies in particular must keep on proving that they are ready for the future by always producing new ideas. We therefore need first-rate performances in science and research that are systematically translated into economic results", the Economics Minister continued.

The renowned speakers also devoted their presentations to the multifaceted interaction between science, applied research and economic practice. The range of topics covered extended from industrial research & development referring to examples taken from the field of automobile construction and the human factor as the most important driver of innovations, to the role of the universities in technology transfer and the cluster initiative launched by the State Government with its successes along with international cooperation with neighboring European countries. Over 600 top representatives from industry, science and research met at the Congress to exchange information and share ideas.
