Group of investors builds logistics and service center in Neunburg vorm Wald / 200 new jobs

MUNICH Good news for the Upper Palatinate: A group of investors intends to set up a logistics center in Neunburg vorm Wald in the next few years and will create some 200 new jobs. Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, welcomes the investment and sees it as further proof of the Upper Palatinate’s ability to assert itself in the face of competition from Germany and abroad for suitable sites: "Excellent logistical advantages underpin the attraction of the region. Its first-rate transport infrastructure and highly qualified labor force make the Upper Palatinate one of the top addresses for the recruitment of logistics companies in Europe. By opting for the Upper Palatinate, the investors Buchbinder and Aichinger have shown they have a keen eye for the best framework conditions."

The shareholders of the car rental firm Buchbinder and the haulage company Aichinger are going to construct a logistics center on the 33-hectare plot of land formerly used by the barracks in Neunburg vorm Wald. The complex will include, among other things, an auction house for cars and a technical service center. A good 100 jobs are planned in the technical sector, while a further 100 will be created in the commercial as well as the logistics and transport divisions. The companies chose the site, because it was situated in the center of Germany and also Europe, making it an ideal base for their business activities.

The car rental company Buchbinder has facilities in more than 110 locations and is represented in Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Italy with nearly 1000 employees. Altogether the company owns more than 18,000 vehicles, 20,000 being sold each year. Buchbinder plans to enter the Czech und Hungarian markets in 2009.

The international haulage company Aichinger has branch offices in Germany, Belgium and Italy. 150 employees are engaged in the transport, distribution and storage business.

With around 400,000 employees, the logistics industry ranks among the most important industrial sectors in Bavaria. This makes Bavaria one of the states with the highest logistics competence – both in terms of quantity and quality - in Germany. The total sales revenue of Germany’s logistics sector for the year 2007 was estimated at more than euro 200 billion.
