Goodman develops 100,000 sqm logistics park in Langenbach in immediate vicinity of Munich Airport

MUNICH The positive trend in Bavaria’s logistics industry is still in full swing. Goodman, a leading international industrial real-estate company, is developing a new ultramodern logistics park at Langenbach in the direct vicinity of Munich Airport that will occupy a total area of up to 100,000 sqm. Emilia Müller, Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, sees this project as confirmation of the excellent framework conditions existing in Bavaria for logistics companies: "Thanks to its central location in the heart of Europe, Bavaria makes an ideal location for logistics operations. With its first-class transport infrastructure, broad spectrum of university and research facilities and the availability of a highly qualified workforce, Bavaria is a top address for logistics recruitments in Europe", Minister Müller commented.

After carefully searching for a suitable site, Goodman chose the logistics plant of Kühne + Nagel to the North-East of Munich as its platform for the Goodman Munich Airport Logistics Center. Its aim for the years ahead is to create one of the biggest contiguous logistics parks in the Munich area. Altogether the plot of land covers eight hectares with the possibility of extending to other plots, so that a building complex of more than 100,000 sqm could emerge in the years to come. The site is situated on the B11 highway with direct access to the BAB 92 freeway as well as to the BAB 8, BAB 9 and BAB 96 freeways.

"Thanks to its proximity to Munich Airport, the new logistics park has an ideal strategic location. Both national and international airlines and companies rate Munich Airport highly as a hub for the transshipment of goods. It was not least for this reason that in 2008 Munich Airport was voted the best Airport in Europe for the fourth time running", Minister Müller added.

"Many aspects play an important role in choosing a site for such an extensive project", explained Roland Vogt, Director Business Development Goodman Germany. "Besides the excellent transport network and a reasonable cost/benefit ratio, it is also essential to have the full backing of the municipal and state authorities. Our choice fell on Langenbach, because here we received vigorous support on all sides right from the very start."

With a labor force of close on 400,000 employees, the logistics sector ranks among the most important branches of industry in Bavaria. Bavaria is therefore one of the states with the highest logistics competence in terms of quantity and quality in Germany. The total sales revenue of the logistics industry in Germany for 2007 was estimated at more than Euro 200 billion.

Goodman is an integrated real-estate group and operates with some 1,200 employees from 37 offices in 18 countries. The Goodman Group comprises Goodman International Limited and Goodman Industrial Trust and has a market capitalization of Euro 3.2 billion, thus making it the largest industrial real-estate company quoted on the Australian stock exchange and one of the leading listed fund managers specializing in industrial real estate and business parks worldwide. In Germany, Goodman is represented in Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Munich.
