MUNICH The German Federal Minister of Economic Affairs, Michael Glos, formally handed over the certificate of the audit berufundfamilie® (workandfamily audit) of the Hertie Foundation to Emilia Müller, the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, today. "The ideal balance between family and career is a matter of particular importance to me. The successful audit shows that the human resources policies pursued by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs are taking up the current challenges in the family sector. When it comes to competition for well-qualified staff, a family-conscious personnel policy is a decisive locational advantage. Not only must we call on the business community to demonstrate this awareness, but we also intend to practice it ourselves and act as a role model", Müller stressed at the presentation of the audit certificate.
During the ceremony Minister Glos underlined: "A family-friendly and family-conscious approach are location factors not to be underestimated especially in the light of the imminent shortage of skilled labor. This applies as much to agencies as to industry. Every institution and every company is well advised to practice a family-friendly personnel policy. The German Ministry of Economics and Technology is the first Federal Ministry to take up the certification process of the Hertie Foundation and has been setting a good example for over six years now."
The audit berufundfamilie® encourages a family-conscious personnel policy in companies and institutions. By entering into a number of target agreements, working procedures and management strategies are to be further improved with a view to seeking an optimal balance between work and family. The audit is recommended by the leading German industry associations under the patronage of the German Federal Minister of Family Affairs, Ursula von der Leyen, and Federal Economics Minister, Michael Glos. Altogether more than 600 companies, institutions and universities are already using the audit as a management tool to improve the balance between family life and work.
