German-American firm Telair International boosts its production capacity in Bavaria / Over 100 new jobs

MUNICH / MIESBACH The German-American supplier of components to the aircraft industry, Telair International, is investing around euro 15 million in Miesbach, and so creating 100 to 150 new jobs. Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, sees this as confirmation of Bavaria’s appeal as a top industrial location: “The State of Bavaria is an important European location for aerospace and aeronautics. We are excellently placed when it comes to industry, research and networking. Telair International has been exploiting these assets for a long time. Even in the current difficult situation, Bavaria can boast convincing locational advantages.”

Telair is constructing a new hall to accommodate extensive major contracts from Boeing and Airbus. In future cargo-loading systems will be assembled here and testing and demonstration facilities set up. Construction work is due to be completed by the spring of 2010. At the Miesbach site, Telair International already develops, produces and markets cargo-loading systems for the aviation industry. In the meantime, it has a work force of some 270 and generates a sales revenue of nearly euro 100 million.

Axel Hauner, managing director of Telair International: “In Bavaria we can draw on a pool of excellently trained employees. Over the years we have built up a very close cooperative relationship with our mainly local component suppliers. Both of these arguments play a very important role in the continuity-oriented aviation business”. What is more, Telair International would also profit from the Bavarian Aerospace Cluster bavAIRia e.V. with its Cluster Spokesman Dr. Martin Haunschild, Hauner said: “We believe in cutting-edge technology. The Bavarian networks will therefore be of great benefit to us, for cooperation projects, for example, in the development of products or in the search for highly qualified staff.”

Founded forty years ago, Telair is a subsidiary of the US group Teleflex Inc. that operates in the fields of medical technology and the aviation and shipping industries. With a labor force of some 14,000 employees, Teleflex Inc. generates a total sales revenue of US Dollar 2.4 billion worldwide.
