At the festive dedication of the Franconian International School (FIS) in Erlangen, Bavaria’s Minister-President Dr. Günther Beckstein emphasised the educational offerings in Bavaria with their high level of achievement and diversification as a decisive advantage in the geographical competition.
Beckstein: "International schools such as the FIS are important components in Bavaria’s educational infrastructure, which has been recognized for its good quality and customisation. For many internationally operating companies, our educational and training opportunities are especially crucial criteria when deciding on new locations and investments. As a result of this new construction in Erlangen, we can further increase the attractiveness of the Nuremberg-Erlangen-Fürth-Herzogenaurach metropolitan region."
Within this context, Beckstein also thanked the companies of the metropolitan region - especially Siemens in Erlangen and Adidas in Herzogenaurach - for their considerable support of the Franconian International School. Beckstein: "With their major commitment to the International School, the companies in the region demonstrate how well economic advantages and social responsibility are joined in this state. We can be particularly proud of this in Bavaria."
According to Beckstein, there are now seven locations for international schools in Bavaria and an additional site is currently under construction in Regensburg. The Franconian International School was already launched in 1998 in Herzogenaurach. Because of the substantial increase in the number of students, the decision was made in 2005 to construct a new complex at the Erlangen location. The new school, including the kindergarten, is designed for about 500 students.
