Congratulations from Bavaria’s Economics Minister Müller on the formal commissioning of the biogas plant in Schwandorf

MUNICH Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Emilia Müller, congratulated Bioerdgas Schwandorf GmbH, the E.ON Group and Schmack Biogas AG on having successfully commissioned their new biogas plant in Schwandorf. "We intend to further enhance Bavaria’s front-line position in the field of bioenergy and exploit this technical potential as much as possible. The new biogas plant will take us a big step closer to our goal of increasing the share of biomass in primary energy use to 8 % in Bavaria", explained Müller.

In the new plant, biogas will be upgraded to natural gas quality and fed into the natural gas grid. The particular advantage of this technology over former biogas plants is its wider range of use. With the new technology, the biogas produced can also be used for the local supply of heat and the waste heat lost in the generation of electricity is optimally utilized. These so-called co-generation plants combining heat and power are particularly energy efficient.

"With the help of this technology we can further develop our good position as regards the use of renewable energies. At the same time, it also means jobs and added value in the region – on the part of agriculture as the provider of the raw materials, on the part of the plant operators and on the part of the Bavarian manufacturers, which can use the head start in terms of know-how as a competitive advantage", Müller underlined.
