Bavaria’s Economics Vice-Minister Hessel gives press conference at the aerospace show ‘Aerospace Testing, Design and Manufacturing’
MUNICH In the press conference at the ‘Aerospace Testing, Design and Manufacturing’ show, which is this year being held in Munich for the third time, Bavaria’s Vice-Minister of Economic Affairs, Katja Hessel, commented: “The fact that Munich was chosen as the venue for this tradeshow underscores one more time the outstanding position Bavaria enjoys in the aerospace industry.”
Altogether well over 60,000 people are employed in the aerospace sector in Bavaria. The annual sales revenue comes to close on 6.5 billion euro. But the economic significance of the aerospace industry goes far beyond pure sales and employment figures. “The companies operating in this sector are scoring well as motors driving growth and innovation, with R&D accounting for up to 19 percent of revenues. This puts aerospace up among the strategic technologies worldwide”, Hessel continued. Aerospace Testing was making a further contribution to Bavaria’s attractiveness as a top location for aerospace and satellite navigation.
“The State Government supports the vital industry networks and the networking between industry and research with its ‘Allianz Bayern Innovativ’ Cluster Initiative. The organization bavAIRia has therefore been tasked with the management of the twin ‘Aerospace’ and ‘Satellite Navigation’ Clusters. Under its President Dr. Martin Haunschild, it has proved to be a competent partner for industry”, Hessel added.
The Vice-Minister continued to say that Bavaria had followed innovative paths in its efforts to make the research infrastructure attractive. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has, for example, launched the ‘Bauhaus Luftfahrt’ Initiative in collaboration with EADS, MTU Aero Engines und Liebherr-Aerospace. The aim of this think tank for visionary, unconventional and inter-company research in the field of aviation is to encourage interdisciplinary research cooperation projects on the ‘Future in Aviation’ under one roof.
