Bavarian global player Dachser invests in Nuremberg and Kürnach
MUNICH / NUREMBERG / KÜRNACH Bavaria’s appeal as a top location for the logistics sector has once again been confirmed even during the economic and financial crisis. The globally operating logistics services provider Dachser has opened a new logistics center in Nuremberg and is expanding its branch office in the Lower Franconian town of Kürnach. Bavaria’s Economics Minister Martin Zeil welcomes the company’s investment decisions: “The logistics company Dachser stands for innovation, dynamism and competitiveness. It sets great store by Bavaria’s role as a hub focusing on the most important national and international markets.“ By making these major investments Dachser was confirming its sharp eye for excellent locational conditions and so proving to be a global flagship for Bavaria.
At the beginning of September, Dachser opened one of North Bavaria’s largest logistics centers in Nuremberg covering an area of 105,000 square meters. It will create 60 new jobs in the contract logistics sector alone. “We are able to undertake this 50 million euro investment project in the current situation, because as a family business we can make long-term plans and most of our profits are re-invested”, said Dachser Managing Director Gerhard Riester. At the same time Dachser is investing ten million euro in developing its branch office at Kürnach in Lower Franconia. In the medium term, this will create another 20 new jobs. What is more, the company has also purchased a 30,000 square meter plot of land for a further expansion in the area. The location is ideally situated at the junction of the A7 and A3 freeways.
The positive developments in Nuremberg and Kürnach are the result of previous and current investments by the Bavarian global player. At its company headquarters in Kempten in the Allgäu, Dachser has constructed a new office complex for 350 employees costing more than 20 million euro. In 2008, Dachser expanded its logistics center in Hof to 84,000 square meters and invested some 30 million euro.
With a labor force of roughly 400,000 employees, the logistics sector is one of the most important branches of industry in Bavaria. This makes Bavaria one of the German states with the highest logistics competence in terms of quality and quantity. The total sales revenue of the logistics sector in Germany for the year 2008 was estimated at around 200 billion euro.
