Bavaria’s Economics Vice-Minister Sackmann presents Bavarian Quality Prize 2008

Sackmann: "Quality as a key success factor for the Bavarian business community"

MUNICH   Bavaria’s Vice-Minister of Economic Affairs, Markus Sackmann, has awarded the Bavarian Quality Prize 2008 to nine Bavarian companies and three Bavarian communities at the Munich Residence. "Quality is one of the key success factors for the Bavarian business community. Bavaria can only successfully hold its own as a top business location in the face of worldwide competition if we lead the field in the quality of our products, production processes and services. I therefore attach great importance to paying tribute to companies that demonstrate outstanding quality standards. The Quality Prize is a well-deserved sign of recognition for the prize winners. It should also serve as an incentive for other entrepreneurs to be included up here among the winners in one of the next presentations of the Prize," commented Vice-Minister Sackmann.

The Bavarian Quality Prize was launched by the State Government in 1993. This year it was presented to companies for the sixteenth time and to towns and communities for the eleventh time. The Bavarian Quality Prize was the first national award of this type in Germany and pays tribute to:

- Bavarian companies that excel with extensive company-wide quality assurance concepts and innovative solutions, as well as to
- Bavarian communities that create optimal pro-business framework conditions and consistently implement the idea of quality.

The Bavarian Quality Prize has distinguished companies that have rendered outstanding services in the field of company performance.

In the category of industry:

  Automotive component supplier
- Cherry GmbH, 91275 Auerbach i.d.OPf.
  Automotive component supplier, computer input device

In the category of skilled crafts:
- KOLLER + Schwemmer GmbH & Co. KG, 90408 Nürnberg
  Service provider and supplier of components to the automobile industry
- Martin Metallverarbeitung GmbH, 96237 Ebersdorf
  Metal processing (automotive components supplier)

In the category of trade:
- DER RADLBAUER, Sport Böttner GmbH & Co. KG, 83607 Holzkirchen
  Bicycle retail markets
- Der Männerladen e.K., 86956 Schongau
  Retail trade

In the category of business-oriented service providers:
- SWM Kundenservice GmbH, 80287 München
  Energy supply, customer service
- TANNER AG, 88131 Lindau
  Technical documentation

Together with Bavaria’s State Secretary of the Interior, Jürgen W. Heike, Economics Vice-Minister Markus Sackmann awarded three Prizes to pro-business communities in Bavaria. They were distinguished for particular quality in the municipal promotion of business. 

They were in 2008:

- City of Ingolstadt, Upper Bavaria
- Town of Neustadt/Coburg, Upper Franconia
- Community of Ursensollen, Upper Palatinate

"The municipalities are the best partners for the business enterprises in the region. They see themselves as service providers for the business community and for the citizens. In particular, they also bring benefits to the strong contingent of small and medium-sized companies in Bavaria," State Secretary Heike said, praising the commitment demonstrated by the municipalities.

The prize winners were selected from 79 Bavarian companies and 16 communities. They were nominated by business organizations and district governments.
