MUNICH Bavaria’s appeal as a top business location for US companies is still undiminished. Since the beginning of 2007, more than 30 American start-up and expansion projects have been successfully completed in the State of Bavaria, in which close on 650 new jobs were created and more than euro 270 invested. Examples of the most important successful recruitments include the investments by GE Aviation, Google and Iron Mountain.
Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Emilia Müller, is delighted at this trend and sees it as confirmation that international companies are very well looked after in Bavaria: "Bavaria convinces US companies especially with its reliable and pro-business policy, its excellent university and research facilities and also the availability of a highly qualified and motivated labor force. Thanks to Bavaria’s role as a platform providing access to the Eastern European markets, the State is automatically moving into the spotlight of many US investors when it comes to setting up a main European branch office, a European sales office or a production plant", Minister Müller commented.
Major US companies were satisfied by the attractive amenities Bavaria has to offer: GE Aviation, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of jet aircraft engines with its headquarters in the US State of Ohio is currently building a research facility in Regensburg for the development of future-oriented manufacturing processes for turbine blades.
The world-famous Californian IT company Google has chosen Munich as the base for its very first research and development center in Germany.
Iron Mountain, the world’s leading provider of services and solutions for storing, securing and administering physical corporate documentation as well as digital business data and data carriers, has opened a new high-security archive center in Fürstenfeldbruck near Munich. The company has invested close on euro 5 million in the Fürstenfeldbruck site. After Markt Schwaben and Kirchheim near Munich, Fürstenfeldbruck is already the company’s third site in Bavaria.
"These successful recruitments also demonstrate the efficiency of Bavarian location marketing. US investors receive optimal support from Invest in Bavaria and the two Bavarian liaison offices in the USA in all matters concerning Bavaria as a top business location. We are a reliable and competent partner for our prospective American customers and will continue to pursue this outgoing, customer-oriented strategy in the future as well", Minister Müller continued.
Bavaria and the USA can look back on a long tradition of close business relations. With a foreign trade volume of more than euro 25 billion, the USA is one of Bavaria’s most important business partners. Some 750 Bavarian companies have a branch in the USA. In the other direction, roughly 850 American companies are actively engaged in Bavaria. The Bavarian representative offices in Palo Alto and New York offer free and extensive on-the-spot support to interested companies.
