Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, visits US company Google in Mountain View, California

MUNICH / MOUNTAIN VIEW      Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, visited the world-famous US company Google today during his three-day trip to California. His talks with the management focused on the company’s great commitment to Bavaria. “Bavaria is proud that Google’s very first research & development center in Germany has been in operation in Munich since the fall of 2007. As one of the most important international IT companies, Google’s decision shows that it has a keen eye for the best framework conditions. The company benefits in particular from the large pool of highly qualified employees and the excellent research and academic facilities available in Munich”, Minister Zeil commented.

Bavaria and the Greater Munich Area rank at the top of the jobs league in Germany’s information and communications sector. Innovations in the fields of digital technologies, mobile communications and software are making the Bavarian capital one of the leading IT locations in Europe.

“Google’s high opinion of Bavaria as a center for research and science reaffirms the success of the Bavarian Cluster Initiative, which specifically places emphasis on the highly dynamic, technology-driven IT sector”, Zeil continued.

Google was founded in 1998 and since then has developed into one of the largest IT companies in the world with a market value of over 150 billion dollars. By its own account, Google offers its users access to an index consisting of several billion websites. Worldwide, the company has about 14,000 employees, including some 2,500 in Europe.
