Bavaria’s Economics Minister Zeil comments on the expert report on ‘Bavaria: A prime location for the services industry’

MUNICH "The Bavarian service providers have taken advantage of the good conditions in Bavaria and used the period of dynamic development to create a sound basis for the years to come", Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Zeil, said, summing up the results of the expert report on Bavaria as a services location, which had been commissioned by the Association of Bavarian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (BIHK). "Bavarian service providers are even outperforming top international services regions like South-East England. This is making the services sector an important lever for Bavaria’s leading position as one of the regions with the strongest economies in Europe", Economics Minister Zeil underscored.

The services sector is benefiting from the increase in interaction with the strong, competitive business community in Bavaria. "A sales revenue of € 486 billion along with a 68 percent share of gross value added and a working population of also close on 68 percent impressively show how important the services sector is for industry in Bavaria", commented Zeil.

In his opinion, it was essential to actively take advantage of the excellent future outlook revealed by the report. Bavarian economic policy would therefore continue to concentrate on offering favorable framework conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises in Bavaria. In close collaboration with the chambers and trade associations, Zeil intends to devote special attention to ‘internationalization’. "In particular we will help our service providers to seize the opportunities presented in the foreign markets", announced Economics Minister Zeil.

The aim of the study commissioned by the Association of Bavarian Chambers of Commerce and Industry was to identify current trends in the Bavarian services sector. Zeil will present the study today jointly with the Managing Director of the BIHK, Peter Driessen.
