Bavaria’s Economics Minister Müller discusses closer bilateral cooperation with Economic Commissioner of the US State of Georgia

MUNICH The Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Emilia Müller, met her counterpart from the US State of Georgia, Ken Stewart, today to talk about further opportunities for cooperation between Bavaria and Georgia. "Like Bavaria, the State of Georgia stands for growth, prosperity and pro-business policies", commented Bavaria’s Economics Minister Müller. Its capital Atlanta was a business center in the South of the USA and also one of international importance thanks to its Airport – which is moreover the biggest in the world. Close on 350 companies from Germany alone had already set up a representation or branch office there. Nearly one third of these came from Bavaria. "This clearly demonstrates that Georgia is an extremely attractive partner for Bavarian companies", Müller said.

This year, Georgia will be taking part in the Regional Leaders Conference of the Partner Regions of Bavaria for the first time. The key topics being addressed by the Regional Leaders Conference will be public health and renewable energies. Müller: "Public health and renewable energies are important issues of our future. At the Regional Leaders Conference, we intend to discuss opportunities for even more intensive cooperation among the participating partner regions of Bavaria, Georgia, Québec, Upper Austria, São Paulo, Western Cape and Shandong, so that we can make a concerted effort to proactively tackle the challenges of the future."

The Conference goes back to an initiative of the Bavarian Minister-President dating from the year 1998 and will be held for the fourth time in 2008. The central themes of the Conference include the sharing of political ideas and solutions, the development of a concrete exchange and cooperation among experts from the regions in selected key fields as well as further intensifying bilateral cooperation with the individual partner regions.
