Nanotechnology is one of the key technologies of the 21st century – and a great opportunity for Bavaria. As cross-sectional technology which does not belong to any specific sector, young companies are shooting out of the ground, especially in the areas around outstanding research institutions.
Market and partners in the fields of nanotechnology
There is no nanotech market as such, but rather very distinctive sub-markets with differentiated market dynamics and characteristics. The Boston Consulting Group estimated the value added for 2005 at one billion euro, just for nano-biotechnological products in Bavaria. The Group considers an increase to 18 billion euro by 2015 as possible. The number of people employed could rise during the same period from 9,000 to 160,000.
