The Market

Export highlight from Bavaria

Mechatronic systems “Made in Germany” are world renown in many industrial sectors based on their cutting edge technological features. Mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and electronics - Bavaria’s three major fields of industrial expertise - each account for a share of 20% to 25% of Germany’s workforce or 22.5 to 30% of sales revenue. The strength of the Bavarian industry in an international comparison is exhibited by export shares between 55 and 60%. Furthermore, the Bavarian manufacturing sector covers virtually the entire range of industrial production, with a large influence on industrial sectors such as production engineering, automation and robotics.

Mechatronics in Bavaria

Mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and the electrical industry together employ a workforce of over 610,000 people in the State of Bavaria and generate sales of over 170 billion euros per annum. This represents approximately 50% of total employees and 60% of total sales of the Bavarian manufacturing sector
Bavaria’s research and development focus areas are:

  • Production engineering – high-capacity and flexible manufacturing and assembly systems
  • Robotics/automation – intelligent control engineering and lightweight construction drives
  • Automotive engineering – mechatronic brake systems and drive-by-wire technologies
  • Medical technology – active implants, tools for minimal-invasive surgery, computer-aided/robot-assisted surgery
  • Cross-section areas – mechatronic packaging solutions, methods and tools for concurrent engineering
