Regional Information
Bavaria's development from an agricultural to an industrial and high-tech location is particularly discernible in the region of Lower Bavaria. For a very long time it was a region dominated by agriculture alone; now only 7 % of the workforce are employed in this sector, whereas 36 % are employed in the manufacturing industry and 57 % in the service sector. A healthy variety of industry is represented in the skilled crafts and a substantial tourism sector, which is reflected in the considerable growth rates of the gross domestic product and in the low unemployment rate which is well below the western German average.
