The Market
Bavaria’s biotech cluster is comprised of 14 of the 50 world leaders in pharmaceutical sales and global players such as Amgen, Biogen-Idec, Baxter, Bristol-Myers Squibb, GE Global Research, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, Roche Diagnostics, Pfizer, Daiichi-Sankyo, Sandoz, plus many service providers such as CROs (contract research organizations).
The first product launched on the market by a biotechnology firm based in Germany was from the Bavarian-based MediGene in Martinsried: Eligard – a prostate cancer drug which has been on the market since 2004.
