Introduction
Bavaria is a global leader in the aeronautics and space sector and with the advent of Galileo – Europe’s developing global navigation satellite system – the state is well positioned to become a leading center for satellite navigation. The state is home to a wide range of the world’s leading military aircraft, aircraft engine, rotorcraft, spacecraft, satellite manufacturers as well as supporting systems and component industries throughout the aerospace and satellite navigation industries.
Bavaria is one of only a few locations where the entire engineering supply chain for the aerospace sector is located – from research, development, production and assembly to maintenance and service for global customers. Located in Bavaria are:
- three system suppliers of the sector,
- numerous equipment suppliers,
- technical service providers,
- scientific and training facilities
- a well-developed air transport infrastructure
Bavaria is a nerve center for the European space industry. With key organizations such as EADS-Astrium, EADS Space Transportation, EADS Space Services, MT Aerospace, Kayser-Threde and Galileo Industries based in Bavaria, the state has established itself as a crucial European & international center for development, manufacturing & operations for space transportation systems, space stations/platforms and satellites.
